Norcross + Scott is the story of two friends (and, in a roundabout way, in-laws) who decided to combine their professional experience and love of beautiful design, and start a new business. In 2014 Amanda Norcross and Scott Paterek founded Norcross + Scott Interior Design while simultaneously opening their eponymous retail shop in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood. Since then they have completed many design projects throughout Chicagoland and the MidWest. In 2019, with the interior design business in full swing, they brought in William Collins to steward the shop.
The goal of Norcross +Scott is to provide an integrated personal experience across every part of our business. We understand how meaningful it is to our design clients that we listen to their needs and help them realize their dreams. In the shop, we delight in sharing our personal design view point through a curated offering of art and decor. And however we are interacting with our clients, be it designing a home, shopping in person or online, we want them to know they’re working with real experts, real people, who care.
Originally from Northern Michigan, Amanda moved to Chicago in 1998. She has two children ages 11 and 13 with her husband Stuart Brody. Amanda is on the board of Girls Supporting Girls working to eliminate gender barriers in education by funding international school construction projects and running local school programs that teach children about their peers around the globe. She also serves as an Associate Board Member for Designs 4 Dignity, an organization founded on the belief that every individual should have access to environments that support the wellness of the human spirit. Her passion is skiing of all varieties and she competes in 2 cross-country ski marathons each winter including the infamous American Birkebeiner.
With an undergraduate degree in Art History and a Master of Science in Architectural Preservation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Amanda previously consulted with clients on adaptive reuse plans, sensitive approaches to historic home remodeling, as well as navigating historic preservation tax credits available to those with historically or architecturally significant homes. Attending high school at Cranbrook Kingswood Amanda slept in Saarinen designed beds, went through a rebellious phase of weaving, and studied fine arts. Growing up in Northern Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan fostered her love of the outdoors and she is passionate about including natural elements into her design projects. Functionality is fundamental to Amanda’s design philosophy and she prizes sculptural lighting for its ability to provide both visual interest and function.
It’s the classic story - boy finds a copy of Architectural Digest, boy loves Architectural Digest, boy discovers people actually make a living doing what he loves. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Scott has been part of the interior design scene for nearly 30 years. He’s worked on design projects from Manhattan to Scottdale to Northern Michigan but still calls Little Rock home. Scott lives with his partner of 13 years and spends his spare time water skiing, taking flying lessons, and drinking manhattans, although rarely all at the same time.
An early fascination with textiles led Scott first to the fashion industry and then into interior design. In 1995 Scott and his business partner Rus Venable launched their interior design firm Chatelain. This successful venture inspired Scott to open his first home retail store in Little Rock called Massimo, now an established furnishings resource. Throughout his career he’s been regularly involved with showhouses benefiting such organizations as Build for the Cure and the Arkansas Symphony. Scott is a firm believer that travel is transformative and he gleans much of his design inspiration from travel.
The steward of our shop, William has been in Chicago so long he’s almost lost his southern accent. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, he has worked for many of the tastemakers of Chicago including Marshall Field & Co., Elements, and Thomas Job. In addition to curating our selection of art and decor, he designs furniture for his own company William Collins Collection. William loves opera, ballet, and is in no way as athletic as his associates above. Carlo Bugatti, known for his inventive forms and unusual materials, is William’s furniture design hero.
